Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)


1. WHAT TEST SHOULD MY CHILD TAKE?

If your child is ages 3-5, most independent schools require the WPPSI-III
(Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence - Third Edition).

If your child is age 6 or older and applying for grades 1-5, most
schools require the WISC-IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children -
Fourth Edition).

Children applying for grades 6 and above are generally required to
take the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test).

2. HOW LONG DO THE TESTS TAKE?

WPPSI-III - (ages 4-5) - approximately 1 hour
(age 3) - approximately 1/2 to 3/4 hour

WISC-IV - approximately 2 - 2 1/2 hours

SSAT - 3 hours

3. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Our address is 5125 MacArthur Blvd., NW - Suite 16 - Washington, DC 20016

We are approximately 1 1/2 miles North of MacArthur Blvd. & Reservoir Road,
or 1 1/2 miles South of Sibley Hospital. We are across the street from
Listrani’s Restaurant.

FROM VIRGINIA:

Go over Chain Bridge. Right on Canal Rd. Left up Arizona Ave.
Right on MacArthur Blvd. EAA is 1 block on left.

FROM MARYLAND:

Go South on River Rd. Right on Goldsboro Rd. Left on Mass. Ave.
Right at Westmoreland Circle onto Dalecarlia Pkwy. Bear Right onto
Loughboro Rd. Left onto MacArthur Blvd. EAA is 8-10 blocks on left.

FROM DC:

Go West on Nebraska Ave. around Ward Circle. Continue on Nebraska Ave.
Left on Arizona Ave. Left on MacArthur Blvd. EAA is 1 block on left.

4. WHAT DO YOU CHARGE FOR THE TESTS?

WPPSI-III - $325 for a 3 year old and $340 for a 4 or 5 year old 

WISC-IV - $375

This fee includes a narrative report and a one-to-one parent conference
to discuss the results (approximately 2 weeks after testing).

5. DOES THE CHILD TAKE THE ASSESSMENT WITH OTHER CHILDREN?

No. Both the WPPSI-III and the WISC-IV administrations are given
on a one-to-one basis which means that after a brief acquaintance
period or warm-up time, the child and the examiner go into a separate room
for the assessment. Parents may either wait in our reception area
or return when the assessment is completed.

6. WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SHY, NERVOUS, HESITANT, ETC.?

Our testers are professionals who have worked with children and administered
these tests for many years. Every effort is made to put your child
at ease and make him or her feel comfortable and have a positive experience.

7. WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY CHILD ABOUT THE ASSESSMENT?

Let your child know that he/she will be doing some interesting
activities to help schools/teachers/parents know how each child learns best.

8. CAN I DO ANYTHING TO PREPARE MY CHILD FOR THE TESTING?

A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast is all the preparation needed.

9. WHAT IF I DO NOT YET KNOW WHAT SCHOOLS I MAY BE APPLYING TO?

Leave that part of the Admissions Registration Form blank. It may be
completed at any time.

10. MAY I PAY BY CREDIT CARD?

No. We accept checks, money orders or cash.
